During the post-production stage, the entire class was divided into teams, with each team assigned to edit one of the four podcast segments. The directors provided a storyboard that detailed which clips and sound bites to use, as well as instructions on transitions and special effects.
Once each segment was completed, it was handed over to the head editing team, whose task was to seamlessly integrate the clips into the final podcast. This collaborative approach ensured that all elements were cohesively assembled to produce a polished final product.
During this phase of the production, I was part of the team responsible for creating Ray’s segment of the podcast. To ensure successful editing, the following steps were taken:
Practice Editing: Before working with the actual podcast clips, we practiced editing techniques to enhance our proficiency and ensure smooth handling of the real footage.
Adhere to the Storyboard: We closely followed the storyboard provided by the directors, which detailed where and how to apply each clip within the segment.
By adhering to these guidelines and properly preparing, the editing phase was conducted smoothly and effectively.
While the overall quality of the video and edit might not be the highest, this project was a valuable opportunity for me to practice clipping, cutting, adding transitions, and overall use of Adobe Premiere Pro software. Prior to this, I had never worked with the software, so this experience was crucial in developing my skills. Through this process, I identified several successful practices that I aimed to bring into the final edit of the podcast:
These takeaways were crucial for the final podcast edit, and without the prior practice, I might not have been able to effectively develop these skills.
Although I was pleased with my initial attempt at editing, it became clear that further development of my skills was necessary to enhance the quality of my section of the podcast. Specific improvements I aimed to make included:
Learning Transitions: I planned to watch videos and read tutorials on how to execute new transitions as I was only familiar with one type initially.
Incorporating Special Effects: I needed to learn how to add images and other special effects to my edits to enrich the visual appeal of the edit.
By developing these skills and applying the lessons learned from this task, combined with following the detailed guidance of the storyboard, I was confident that the final edit would be of a high standard.
Above is the storyboard that served as the basis for the podcast edit. By following this storyboard and applying the skills gained from practicing and researching new techniques, the final edit of the podcast turned out better than expected. I am really pleased with my personal development in terms of using Premiere Pro and my new understanding of editing as a whole.
